INCIDENT: Health and Safety Code 11370.1(a)- Possession of a Controlled Substance while Armed, Penal Code 30305(a)(1)- Prohibited Person from Possessing Ammunition
LOCATION: 9100 block of North Star Trail, Morongo Valley
SUSPECT(S): Catarino Martinez, 59-year-old resident of Morongo Valley
VICTIM(S): State of California
SUMMARY: On Saturday, October 15, 2022, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Morongo Basin deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in the 9100 block of North Star Trail. During the 9-1-1 call, a female reported she was assaulted and the suspect was attempting to flee. Deputies arrived on scene and located a white sedan matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle.
Deputies gave occupants inside the residence numerous commands to step outside. After no one exited the residence, deputies made entry to verify the victim was safe. During the investigation, the suspect, Catarino Martinez, was located and detained. Deputies determined the victim fled the location and was safe. Martinez was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine for sales, a loaded shotgun, an un-serialized Glock style handgun, and several additional firearms.
Martinez was arrested for Health and Safety Code 11370.1(a)- Possession of a Controlled Substance while Armed and Penal Code 30305(a)(1)- Prohibited Person in Possession of Ammunition. Martinez is currently being held at the West Valley Detention Center, in lieu of a $50,000.00 bail.
