INCIDENT: Attempted Murder / Kidnapping / Assault With A Deadly Weapon
LOCATION: 7000 Block of Sierra Avenue, Joshua Tree, Ca
SUSPECT(S): Fami Hassen 28-year-old Male Resident of Minnesota
VICTIM(S): Confidential
SUMMARY: On Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 12:09 a.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Morongo Basin Station, responded to a 911 call where a female caller stated her husband, Fami Hassen, shot her friend. Deputies arrived at the location and found a male victim with a gunshot wound to his head. Deputies conducted a search of the property and found the male victim to be the only person at the location. Paramedics transported the victim to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment.
During the investigation, it was discovered that Hassen followed his wife from Minnesota, as she met the male victim in Joshua Tree. When Hassen found the two of them together, a confrontation occurred, and Hassen shot the victim. Hassen forced his wife from the location at gunpoint, but she was able to escape and called 911.
Deputy Hospodar and Detective Ables from the Morongo Basin Station continued the investigation and learned Hassen fled the state. Working with federal authorities, they learned Hassen was on a flight back to his home state of Minnesota. Deputy Hospodar obtained an arrest warrant for Hassen, and Detective Ables coordinated with federal and local law enforcement in St. Paul, Minnesota, to apprehend Hassen when he landed.
When Hassen’s flight landed at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, Hassen was taken into custody without incident. Hassen will be extradited back to California on his warrant.
