INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collison
LOCATION: SR-62 (Twentynine Palms Highway) / Fox Trail, Town of Yucca Valley
VICTIM(S): Gary Ray, 69-year-old resident of Yucca Valley
SUMMARY: On Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at about 9:12 p.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Morongo Basin Station responded to SR-62 (Twentynine Palms Highway) and Fox Trail for a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Deputies discovered that a white Fiat sedan traveling east on SR-62 collided with a pedestrian, identified as Gary Ray, who was in the roadway. Ray was transported to Hi-Desert Medical Center by the San Bernardino County Fire Department where he was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.
The Morongo Basin Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) responded and the investigation is ongoing. Alcohol or drug intoxication does not appear to be a factor in the collision. The victim’s identification is pending notification of next of kin by the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office.
