MORONGO BASIN – Every second of every day, an older adult (age 65+) suffers a fall in the U.S.—making falls the leading cause of injury and death in this age group. One out of four older adults will fall each year in the United States, making falls a public health concern, particularly among the aging population. Resources and programs for fall prevention and mitigation are not always available in rural areas but that is about to change.

The Dignity at Home Fall Prevention grant received by Reach Out Morongo Basin will help qualified Morongo Basin senior and disabled persons lower or eliminate fall hazards in the home. Funding for this service has been provided by the San Bernardino County Department of Aging and Adult Services through a grant award from the California Department of Aging. The Dignity at Home Fall Prevention program will provide individualized home assessments to evaluate environmental factors that contribute to falls in the home. Assistive equipment such as toilet risers, bedside commodes, shower seats and home repairs or modifications such as grab bars, wheelchair ramps, flooring repairs, outdoor handrails and more can be provided free of cost to eligible individuals. In addition, educational materials on fall prevention will be provided to all participants.

For more information or to see if you qualify, please contact Reach Out Morongo Basin at 760-361-1410.
