INCIDENT: PC 626.8(a) Trespassing on School Grounds
LOCATION: Oasis Elementary School, 73175 El Paseo Drive, Twentynine Palms
SUSPECT(S): Vanna Hightower, 34 year-old resident of Twentynine Palms,
VICTIM(S): Morongo Basin Unified School District/ State of California
SUMMARY: On Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at 11:38 a.m., deputies assigned to the Morongo Basin Station responded to a report of a suspicious person attempting to enter the Oasis Elementary School campus, located at 73175 El Paseo Drive, in the city of Twentynine Palms. Administrative staff called 911 and the school site went into lockdown. Deputies arrived on scene less than one minute after being dispatched to the call. Deputies located the female, later identified as Vanna Hightower, on foot nearby the campus. Hightower was detained without further incident.
During the investigation, deputies determined Hightower provided a false name and was found to have a no bail warrant for absconding from parole. Hightower was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine and paraphernalia. Hightower was arrested and booked at the Morongo Basin Jail for Penal Code 626.8(a)- Trespassing on School Grounds, Health and Safety Code 11377(a)- Possession of a Controlled Substance, Health and Safety Code 11364(a)- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and her parole warrant. Hightower is being held at the West Valley Detention Center without bail.
