SUMMARY: On Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at approximately 10:01 a.m., deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Morongo Basin Station, responded to the area of Sunset Drive and North Star Avenue, in Twentynine Palms, for a person who was shot several times. Deputies arrived at the location and found the victim suffering from three gunshot wounds. Deputies and paramedics rendered medical aid and the victim was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs where he is in stable condition.

During the initial investigation, the incident was believed to have occurred at a residence on Utah Trail, near Palm Vista Elementary School, where the suspect Pejman Elahi resided. As a precaution, a shelter in place order was issued for the students and staff at the school.

The Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division (S.E.D.)  responded to the Elahi’s residence and served a search warrant at the property. The suspect was not at the location and the shelter in place order was lifted soon after. The suspect’s whereabouts were unknown and law enforcement was actively looking for him.

On Thursday, November 10, 2022, deputies from the Morongo Basin Station learned Elahi was scheduled for a court appearance today at the Joshua Tree Courthouse for an unrelated case. Elahi showed up to his court hearing and was taken into custody afterwards without incident.
