Yucca Valley, Ca. I am probably the last person that should be writing about this topic because I am not a computer guru like DanO. But that is the whole premise of this post, a person does not have to be a rocket scientist to find information on the Internet.
If I can do it, anyone can figure it out or if you have extra dollars to spare, subscribe to a service to provide the information you need in order to research a property, subject, corporation or to hire an individual.
Your information is out there. It is up to you to find out what the public knows about you, your age, your place of residence, etc. There are documents that are public information and are listed on the County Recorder website.
If you run for office or if you are a public official, elected or appointed, you are required to file a Form 700, Statement of Financial Interests, which becomes a public document. In filing a Form 700, the only property you are not required to list is your private residence. The public has the right to know what are the financial interests of a public official to include income, investments, property, loans, amounts and interest rates to include income/investments of his or her spouse. Properties held in trust must be disclosed by law to insure no decisions are made for self benefit which violates Conflict of Interest laws. These completed forms are posted on the FPPC, Fair Political Practice Commission website, www.FPPC.gov and copies are available from the Town clerk or filing agency.
Property information can be obtained several ways, either by APN#, Assessors Parcel Number, physical address, owner name or listed by Grantor/Grantee provided by the Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange, Los Angeles or other county. All a person needs is a computer.
Before I invest in a property, I order a “Property Profile” to review the loan information and taxes owed, if any. All perfectly legal, I might add.
As a public service to those who wish to become more informed about the information that is provided by the Internet, I have listed a few easy links for you to explore. Additionally, I will provide a link for you to inquire if the State owes you any money…if you find a jackpot, please tithe 10% to your church and same to this blog, Cactus Thorns.
Happy Hunting! Readers- Please post your favorite link or search engine just for fun, Ok?
