Beware the “Hitman”

hitman

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has been investigating several complaints from citizens who report being threatened in an email, widely known as the “Hitman Scam.” The FBI first reported the Hitman Scam on their web site back in December 2006. It made the rounds for a few years and died down. However, it seems to have made a comeback and you should be aware of this scam as it can be very unsettling. In the email, the sender claims to have been hired by “someone you know very...

Watch for the “Door Kick Crew”

Watch for the “Door Kick Crew”

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has been investigating residential burglaries in which the front door has been kicked in. Residents are arriving home, finding the front door kicked in and valuables taken. During the course of their investigation, detectives have learned that the suspects will approach houses in a neighborhood they believe to be unoccupied. One will go to the door and knock. When no one answers, they will give the door a swift, hard kick and force it open. The rest of the crew will then enter the...

D.J. Ross: Smoking pot and getting your pets high?

There have been recent comments in Cactus Thorns concerning the local medicinal marijuana dispensary located in simi-rural Yucca Valley.  D.J. Ross is the director of the dispensary, California Alternative Medicinal Solutions (CAMS).  D.J. Ross was kind enough to respond to some of the comments.  D.J. Ross is a former sworn local Parole Officer. CAMS services also include: Acupuncture/Acupressure, Magnetic Theraphy, Massage Theraphy, Chiropractic Adjustments, Yoga, Tai Chi, Herbal remedies (Eastern & Western). By D.J. Ross, Director of CAMS, Yucca Valley TO: Cactus Thorns Readers in general, and Gerrard Scott...

Does the Y.V. City Council have redeeming value?

Welcome to Yucca Valley

Yes. And they deserve a big round of applause for having the courage to stand up to the Board of Supervisors and send this message, “Our town supports military veterans and we allow patients safe access to controlled and legal medical marijuana.” I was seriously leaning toward the view that all of the Councilmen were useless as Councilmen, and a clear and present threat to the very future of Morongo Valley.  As many already know, the council on Tuesday — after years of wrangling and vacillating over to allow...

Opposition to the medical marijuana dispensary lacks logic and morality

Letter to the Editor, by David Peach, Jan. 6, 2010, Hi-Desert Star- Opposition to the medical marijuana dispensary lacks logic and morality. The Yucca Valley Town Council has again postponed final disposition of the only local dispensary pending the assimilation of additional facts. Culling the fabrications and absurdities proffered by opponents is requisite (Emphasis added). They received the threat of being “written off” by the Inland Valley Drug Free Coalition of Rancho Cucamonga, who carpetbag into distant communities for personal promotion while pretending to possess empty medicine and liquor...

Over-the-shoulder parting shots, 2009

Over-the-shoulder parting shots, 2009

Who knew the private gun range inside city limits story would kick up so much dust?  On a sunny day, someone called me to asked if I would do a story on this. “Sure, I’ll do it.” But as looked into it, things got complicated. The most astonishing thing of all was the compete absence of common sense demonstrated by the 29 Palms City Council. Next came the other troublesome issue in this fiasco. The ‘inertia issue.’ The unexplained inertia on the part of the City Council. What we...

Open Letter to Mayor Pro Tem Lori Herbel

“The Y.V. Planning Department intentionally misled the Council.   — D.J. Ross, CAMS Director “Many of us in the Basin had high hopes for you, thinking you were an independent and progressive thinker. But not anymore.” So what were you thinking? What have you done? Your vote put good people with families out of a job during the joys of the holiday season. And more. . . Dear Lori Herbel, How are you this evening? I hope you are fine. The cats and dogs in our Morongo Basin Humane Society...

CAMS revving up to sue City; Animal Shelter in peril

– Commentary, opinion and interview with CAMS - Here’s the uptake on the only legal medicinal marijuana dispensary in the Morongo Basin.  I met today with the CAMS Human Resources Manager, Debi Rodriques. Sorry about the photo (that’s not Ms. Rodriques). It’s used to draw attention to the serious cause and effects of the Y.V. City Council to close the doors of the CAMS dispensary. It was a unanimous 5-5 vote for shutdown by a Council of opportunists. Here’s how causation works: Yucca kicks CAMS, CAMS lays off workers,...
