Despite the effort led by Assemblyman Tim Donnelly to gather signatures, they did not gather enough valid signatures to qualify the referendum for the November 2012 ballot. Donnelly thanked the tens of thousands of volunteer circulators working alonside paid petition-gatherers seeking the 504,760 signatures to qualify.  The last count as of late last night was 447,514 signatures which precludes them from submitting the signatures today to the Registrar of Voters  at each of the 58 counties. He writes: “This is disappointing news, but it is no less of...

SILENT NIGHT “The origin of the Christmas carol we know as Silent Night was a poem that was written in 1816 by an Austrian priest called Joseph Mohr. On Christmas Eve in 1818 in the small alpine village called Oberndorf it is reputed that the organ at St. Nicholas Church had broken. Joseph Mohr gave the poem of Silent Night (Stille Nacht) to his friend Franz Xavier Gruber and the melody for Silent Night was composed with this in mind. The music to Silent Night was therefore intended for...

Yucca Valley Councilman Isaac Hagerman from Facebook

Yucca Valley, Cal.- Prior this evening’s Town Council meeting, Councilman Isaac Hagerman was in the back kitchen maybe partaking in a slice (or more) of pizza while yelling out, “I  hate that Blog! I hate everyone on that Blog!” It seems he was not having a good day as he responded to another Councilman speak of the joy  reading Cactus Thorns. In a rare evening of trying to calm his nerves sitting on the dais , Hagerman spent most of the evening biting his finger nails down to the...

Two ways of life collide in Wonder Valley

First published in the Los Angeles Times on January 5, 2010. Reporting from Wonder Valley — Eric Hamburg bought a house in this valley of wrinkled mountains and sugar-soft sand to escape life in Los Angeles and drink in the empty solitude only the desert can provide. “I loved the peace and quiet. I loved the tremendous sky. I loved the heat in the summer,” he enthused about his remote getaway outside Twentynine Palms. “It was like a safety valve for me.” FOR THE RECORD: Wonder Valley: An article...

SB COUNTY SUPERVISOR’S CHIEF OF STAFF-Chad Mayes  A Brief Overview… It is truly amazing to me what a Google search will turn up in answer to my questions. I found this article dated January 17, 2009, describing Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt’s six-year tenure (2000-2006) as the First District’s Chief of Staff to then-Supervisor Bill Postmus. This post will give you a brief outline of the duties of a Supervisor’s Chief of Staff and salary range from two years ago. Here are some highlights of this report: By El Caudillo, 1/17/09, “A...

Corbin No-Show While Other Candidates Shine

The following story was sent to me via e-mail for publication. It is interesting to say the least. By Dennis “Drinkin” Dinkin, October 20, 2010, Twentynine Palms - One citizen asked, “Were you registered and did you vote in the last City Council election? If not, why not?” This was the easiest question to answer as every participating candidate said yes he voted. It’s a surprising question we now have to ask – relevant considering one candidate for Governor has not voted for over 20 years. Tougher questions emerged...

Candidates- It Costs you Nada!

AN OPEN LETTER TO ALL CANDIDATES Morongo Basin, Ca.- Dear Candidates, Do you have $25,000.00 to spend on your campaign? In the past, some candidates spent that amount on their small local election campaign to print glossy color political ad mailers and purchase radio air time.  Were you invited to an “Invitation Only” fund raiser looking for big donations? Did you answer no to these questions?…..Welcome to the club.  There are decent and honest candidates that want to serve our community that need to get their message out to the voters.  I do not...

Annual Rotary Event-Shoes Given to Needy Kids Yucca Valley, Ca.- 95 kids waited in line in front of Payless shoe store with their moms, aunts, dads, grandmas and siblings while the temperatures reached over 100 degrees, but that did not seem to matter to them. Each child, who had been preselected by their school or church as a child in need, was able to pick out their own brand new pair of shoes (with the help of a parent or guardian) for their first day of school. Cool fruit...
