She’s Back!!!! IePolitics Back On Line

All of us at Cactus Thorns would like to welcome back Sharon Gilbert and her iePolitics.com. For many of us here she has kept us aware of the happenings at the County Seat. We missed her articles and worried about her. It is a relief that she is well and going strong. I guess I can put her RSS feed back up. iePolitics: Welcome Back! — iePolitics.com iePolitics: Welcome Back! Posse corners Cattle Rustler

I could not help myself posting  this story, Cattle Rustling can you believe it? On December 29, 2009, at 9:00 AM, deputies assigned to the Cabazon Sheriff’s Station received information of individuals possibly stealing cattle from the area of Cottonwood north of Boulder Drive in Whitewater. A multi-agency investigation was subsequently initiated by detectives from the Cabazon Sheriff’s Station, in coordination with officers of the Morongo Indian Tribal Patrol and the State Branding Inspector. Initial investigation determined that cattle belonging to the tribe had been stolen on several occasions...

A call for the Removal of Chris Plummer from GPAC

This morning I am recommending to the Twentynine Palms City Council that they move to immediately rebuke and remove Mr. Chris Plummer from the General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC) for his Un-American and elitist suggestion that a Citizen should refrain from his Redress of Grievances, Assembly, Association and Free Speech in a recent editorial in the Desert Trail Newspaper. The Wednesday, January 6, 2010 attack titled Your view: More arguments about OHV riders was your standard fare of the lefts Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals” principle of singling out your...

New Year, New Sheriff, Big Changes

The year 2010 will bring several key changes to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Executive Staff. Undersheriff Richard Beemer will be retiring after 37 years of service. Beemer was appointed Undersheriff by Sheriff Gary Penrod in October of 2005. Prior to that, he had been Deputy Chief of the Field Support Division, Captain of the Bureau of Administration, Captain of Fontana Station and Employee Services. From 1997 to 1999, he served as the Lieutenant in Internal Affairs. Undersheriff Beemer graduated in the 31st Sheriff’s Academy Class in 1973....

OHV Ordinance #3973 History, Comments and Snide Remarks

San Bernardino County has had an Off-Highway Vehicle ordinance for nearly 40 years. Ordinance #1590 was adapted in 1970. Titled “MOTORCYCLES AND OFF-THE-ROAD VEHICLES”, it address the need for spark arrestors and mufflers. It required that noise not exceed motor vehicle code limits for the autos of the day. And, it required operators to have written permission to ride on any private property, a blanket rule that would prove to be in conflict with state law and cause the ordinance to be re-written in 1986 as ordinance #3096. Then,...

TOM PHILPOTT | Orange Heart Disease Ruling Could Boost VA Costs

The cost of war — on veterans’ health and taxpayer wallets — will loom a little larger in the new year when the Department of Veterans Affairs issues a final rule to claim adjudicators to presume three more diseases of Vietnam veterans, including heart disease, were caused by exposure to Agent Orange. The rule, expected to be published soon, will make almost any veteran who set foot in Vietnam, and is diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, B cell leukemia or ischemic heart disease (known also as coronary artery disease), eligible...

A New Year’s Invitation…

First, I would like to wish most everyone on Cactus Thorns a happy new year.  I’m back from New York with a fresh perspective on this blog and the need for citizen-driven reporting.  I have to say that, especially in the desert, where politics play a large role in what news gets covered, and how, and how one gets treated by those in power, an independent outlet such as this one, offers those who would otherwise have little say in the community, an opportunity to be heard, and I...

Lori Herbel: In Response to Banson Hunter

In Response to Banson Hunter’s open letter dated December 23, 2009, I have always stated, I would like to see CAMS move. In my numerous conversations with Town staff on this issue, the staff never informed me that they had a meeting with CAMS informing CAMS that they could not move. One staff member told me that they “forgot” about the meeting and that they did not know as of December 1, 2009 that a moratorium meant that CAMS could not move. I have since found out that we...
