It’s an exclusive Derby, not the traditional American Soapbox Derby open to all our local kids

It’s a soapbox derby race  for kids with cash in hand. Show me the money (US$120.00). Be clear, this is an exclusive race not intended for local good children from struggling families — which incorporates a majority of children in our Valley. Local children from lower-income and middle class families are effectively snubbed and discarded. It’s a class thing. A very poor, if not really sick, message we are sending our local kids who There will be no Soapbox Derby Races for kids that can’t come up with a $120.00....

MUCH TO MY SURPRISE

MUCH TO MY SURPRISE

I was preparing for the Council meeting on Tuesday night by reviewing the online packet of staff reports. All was pretty simple until I came across item 10.1 –“Mid-Year Financial Update and Economic Development/Redevelopment Specialist Position.” As I read this report I could not for the life of me remembering at any time in the past of any Council Member ever having recommended the creation of a new position in the city – that of a Development/Redevelopment Specialist Position. I would have known of such a proposal especially since...

29 Council to Meet again on Feb 9th

The Twentynine Palms City Council will tackle a lengthy agenda at its next regular meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 9, beginning at 6 p.m. at City Hall. Ending months of work by City staff and Planning Commissioners to develop regulations for Farmers Markets, approval of a City Council Consent Calendar item will officially create a chapter in the Development Code for “Certified Farmers Markets, Open Air Markets, Craft and Job Fairs” in the city limits. An additional public hearing on the subject will present an amendment to three Land Use...

Two absolute truths: Crap flows down hill and Flock ain’t wrapped right

Funny thing about political office is that often folks think that just because they are elected that they are smart. Not so in local politics, most guys and gals are elected because they are the least obnoxious amongst our friends on election day. But soon we all have buyers remorse and find that most people in office are just as stupid as the guy we didn’t vote for. Take Steve Flock. Steve will be running for reelection this year and waited these 3 years to be the mayor. Steve...

UPDATE: Sherry Hall’s Illegal Hungry Bunny Ranch

Last night Ms. Hall went in and altered her website to reflect that she is only month to month. But we screen saved her pages. See below links. I applauded the Twentynine Palms City Council when they voted 5-0 not to allow vacation rentals in the City of Twentynine Palms. Vacation rentals do not belong in neighborhoods. Vacation rentals are businesses that bring a constant stream of strangers in that disrupt the family neighborhood dynamics. Its easy to keep an eye on full time neighbors when your trying to keep your...

Gun Range: I don’t like being lied to. No one likes being a patsy

This is very upsetting.  I don’t like being lied to. Neither do the thousands of Cactus Thorn readers and folks that made so many comments concerning Steve Donnell’s private gun range within city limits.  All of us have been told a big whopper that, quote: “THERE IS NO CURRENT public use of the range”. The spokesperson for Steve Donnell’s gun range that knows everything about it, and who has dissemination information on his behalf goes by name of “Concerned One.” S/he has responded to Interviews, Blog posts and Comments...

Its Time to Take Our Town Back

I’d like to thank the Los Angeles Times and David Kelly for bringing us so many new readers. It is exciting to open up the website and see so many new faces. It turns out that People are mad as hell and they are not going to take it anymore. Issue after issue that we have brought to the publics attention has turned out to be a long simmering festering sore. People are sick and tired of the way the Tea and Crumpet crowd have taken over local governments...

A call for the Removal of Chris Plummer from GPAC

A call for the Removal of Chris Plummer from GPAC

This morning I am recommending to the Twentynine Palms City Council that they move to immediately rebuke and remove Mr. Chris Plummer from the General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC) for his Un-American and elitist suggestion that a Citizen should refrain from his Redress of Grievances, Assembly, Association and Free Speech in a recent editorial in the Desert Trail Newspaper. The Wednesday, January 6, 2010 attack titled Your view: More arguments about OHV riders was your standard fare of the lefts Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals” principle of singling out your...

Do what I say, not what I do: Joshua Tree Vacation Homes

I love these folks that have come up here to the High-Desert with their own ideas of how it should be. They are always first to complain about the neighbors or gadfly at any local meeting, where they can pontificate about how we are poor stewards of the land or how we all are scofflaws. Our loosing control of our desert lifestyle to outsiders is like most problems simple economics and it comes down to the concept of  “follow the money.” Next in our series of “Do what I...

The Third Witness: Statement on the Donnell Shooting Incident

Since I was the only other person, other than Byron and Steve Donnell, to witness the negligent discharge at the range by Steve Donnell, and Byron’s word is being challenged, he has asked me to give my accounting of it. While we were in the range house checking the water pressure, Byron made the comment that he thought the AR-15 type rifles were illegal and went to ask Steve about it. When I came out of the range house I saw Byron approach Steve who was holding the rifle....
