2010 29 City Council Speakers Forum Stonewalled?

This Candidates Speakers forum is going to happen. It will happen with or without the use of a city building. It seem word may have come down from city hall to make things difficult for candidates, the community and the alternative news sources in the valley. This decision flies in the face of the full Council per its Aug. 31 Meeting. My understanding was that the full Council was going to consider wavier of fees for use of a city building. Readers may be aware that a syndicate of...

“The Gary Daigneault Theatre 29 Complex-City Building”

Oops! That’s not the building.  But click here to view the proposed building.  It’s worth a click! (Scroll down to bring it into view). At the Tuesday Council, self-appointed local lobbyist, Gary Daigneault, declined to state a cost for the building. But he pushed it with the heart and soul of a seasoned vacuum salesman. Where would the theatre goers  go for donuts?  The only donut place in town would have been rased. The asian community of business men and women will have a swath cut across it. They...

Commentary: Tangled web of conflicting interests?

All the while Daigneault must have been thinking, “He’s taking the  bait.” It seems people are raising eyebrows about the barefaced conflict of interests a man about town is sporting. The old hoofer’s conflicting interests are the same old nemesis as “everyman” pretty much deals with — self-service behavior,  gray areas of ethics lapping at the doors of sought after opportunities, or living by the ends justify the means ethics. The local morning radio voice is the subject of the tangled web of conflicting interests. The radio-jock has many...

29 Planning Commission’s Slip & Fall

Public art is quite a good thing. I love most all of the art in and around Twentynine Palms.  The 29 Planning Commission just voted for a plan to require art in development.  And, if the City Council stamps their approval on this , it’ll be incorporated into the Development Code that would mandate art into nearly every new development...

Are we stupid, or what Twentynine Palms?

At last night’s Y.V. City Council Meeting there was a discussion concerning City funding of the Desert Regional Tourism Agency, which operates the California Welcome Center in town. The discussion centered around their operation expenses which the City helps fund. The city funded $15,000 and apparently there is an issue of another desperate needed $10 K. Hey, maybe that’s not a bad deal after all. Comes now the City of Twentynine Palms who funds their newly formed Tourist Bureau in a quite stupidly move to the tune of (a...

You scratch mine, and I’ll scratch yours

Lets lampoon a bit… The Divine President Gary Daigneault, co-owner of KCDZ 107.7 FM, reported on a story about himself (he does that sometimes). That at a recent Theatre 29‘s January 2 Appreciation Dinner at the Joshua Tree Retreat, His Excellency President Gary Daigneault thanked the City of Twentynine Palms and singled out Council members Steve Flock and Jim Harris for recognition. Gary wasn’t all that clear why two political illuminates got the attboys. But I guess the two illuminatis got gold medallion placed over their heads for something....
