March 2, 2012
By
Capitol-Building

I am devoting this month’s entire newsletter to RTP because we are at a critical stage in the legislative process. What follows is a discussion of the parliamentary situation in both the...

The Hammers 2012: A Pictorial Review

February 14, 2012
By
2-10-12 #10a Crowd at Chocolate Thunder.

This is one of many activities that occurs regularly in the Johnson Valley Open OHV area east of Lucerne Valley. The 29 Palms Marine Base wants to turn this area into an extension of their base and exclude the public. Us residents and desert outdoor entusiasts obviously want to prevent that from happening. Please help us fight back the Feds and convince politicians to side with us.

panoOFFROAD2

The Recreational Trails Program (RTP), arguably the most important government program ever created to benefit motorized recreation (as well as non-motorized recreation) faces a big hurdle in transportation reauthorization legislation!  As you know the RTP funds the development and maintenance of thousands of miles of motorized and non-motorized trails, but without your action the RTP may be eliminated. Transportation reauthorization legislation, known as MAP-21, that passed the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee late last year is being brought up for a vote soon, possibly as early as this...

California State Senator Jean Fuller (R-Bakersfield) is working to keep  Daphne Green in her job as Deputy Director of the Off-Highway Motor Vehicle  Recreation Division (OHMVRD) at California State Parks.  Senator Fuller has asked interested people (like us) to contact Deputy  Appointments Secretary Veronica Ortiz-Torres and other important Democratic  legislators to let them know that Ms. Greene is a problem-solver and has had  a positive impact on responsible OHV recreation in California. Since Governor Brown must appoint someone to the position by year end,  Senator Fuller recommends calling, faxing or emailing Ms. Ortiz-Torres.  See  her email...

Promoter and Cal City resident Lou Peralta reviews his plans for a possible OHV/RV Park in the City.(Photo by Jill Nelson)

While 29 Palms is planning on pissing away $15 Million Dollars on a Playhouse to boost the egos of about 20 people in town and continues to support an art community that does nothing for the bed or sales tax, all the while other crafts and businesses languish and suffer from the disconnect of the city’s core values. California City, another desert community is thinking outside of the box to save their way of life. For several years now, Cal City has successfully profited promoting Off Roading and Recreational Vehicle activities....

Marine Takeover of Johnson Valley exposed as Boondoggle by Associated Press Article

December 7, 2011
By
cid-0-045

In an article published today in newspapers around the country, writer Robert Burns of the Associated Press quotes Marine Corp Commandant General James F. Amos stating that the future of the Marine Corps lies in a smaller, versatile sea-based fighting force based primarily around the Pacific, including bases in Okinawa and Australia; “….but not in Iraq or Afghanistan.” Since Marine representatives have repeatedly stated that the sole reason for the very expensive and widely criticized takeover of the Johnson Valley area is to prepare Marines for land-based battles in...

Were is the outrage?

A day or two after Dave Oakleaf’s death and I am getting pissed.  If this would have been a 74 year old minority beaten by a 46 year old White guy, all hell would have broken loose. It would be 24/7 CNN and MSNBC, but it wasn’t like that. It wasn’t like that at all. It was some shit-house crazy black guy grabbing a baseball bat from the display rack at Wally World and beating our poor friend to death. I do not want to take away our period...
