what to do

What do you do as an elected official when it becomes crystal clear that you have been given bad advice by individuals that are paid handsomely to give you good advice? One can and does understand minor errors of advice. Such things as misinterpretations of codes or perhaps that this street should not be paved yet. But what do you do when three people provided you advice that did the following: Placed our city into debt for 30 million in order to build something that would cost 11 million....

Process Sparks Intense Disagreement Between City Reps and County Counterparts   Santa Barbara, CA– Efforts to divide what’s left of the City of Santa Barbara’s Redevelopment Agency cash on hand — about $28 million — sparked intense disagreements between city representatives and their county counterparts on the seven-member ad hoc oversight committee. Rejected out of hand was the $14 million City Hall had hoped to set aside for a new police station, but that was expected. More troubling to city reps was the 5-to-2 Oversight Committee vote that they’d have to pay back the...

Yo Tony!! You are wrong…

I have been reading Mr. Munoz’s letter to the Department of Finance and find that it falls way short  of  supporting the City’s belief that the Bonds are tied to Project Phoenix or that Project Phoenix would be even considered a viable candidate for being listed as an Obligation on the ROPS. It is not even remotely close to shovel ready and no construction bids have ever be put out to bid, nor a single construction contract signed. It is all blue sky. Mr. Munoz hangs his argument of...

God’s Honest Truth Latest On Project Phoenix

Pay no Attention to the man behind the curtain...

If you are wondering what was said at tonight’s Council Meeting…. read the story. Well, it took some mighty shaking to shake loose the information from Manager Warne, but he finally decided to let the oversight board and the city council in on what has been happening with the State Department of Finance.  That’s good news. Of course, in the meantime, I had to take the criticism of putting out misinformation.  Any misinformation that I put out was due to Manager Warne keeping this information away from City Council...

Supes Look to Repeal Requirements on Unreinforced Masonry Buildings

May 8, 2012
By
Pappy__Harriets_Pioneertown_Palace

SAN BERNARDINO, CA –County code requiring owners of un-reinforced masonry buildings to retrofit their structures to survive earthquakes will be amended and relaxed as the Board of Supervisors took the first step in repealing the language today. Supervisor Neil Derry initiated dialogue on the effort after small businesses throughout the Third District received notices demanding compliance.   “Forcing small businesses like Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown to lay-off workers and close-up shop because the retrofitting costs are too expensive is ridiculous and unacceptable,” Supervisor Derry said. “Littering the landscape...

Dutton Bond Legislation no help to 29 Palms

May 8, 2012
By
Lifesaver

Not even Senator Dutton’s RDA Bond fix will save us from doom. The effective date of the Bonds here is on or before December 31, 2010. Ours were  approved in March of 2011.  SB 986 (Dutton) Redevelopment: bond proceeds. Existing law dissolved redevelopment agencies and community development agencies, as of February 1, 2012, and provides for the designation of successor agencies, as defined. Existing law requires that successor entities perform certain duties, including, among others, remitting unencumbered funds of that agency to the county auditor-controller, and overseeing the use of...

State seeking return of redevelopment assets – San Francisco Business Times

hardball1

State officials are working to regain assets that cities tried to hang onto following the elimination of redevelopment agencies last year, the Mercury News reports. Many cities entered deals to transfer properties to protect them from the state and keep development projects alive. But state officials are now saying that any asset transferred after Jan. 1, 2011, must be returned. That could affect the option given by San Jose to the Oakland A’s to build a stadium in the city’s downtown area, as well as a contract in Oakland...
