Something new and special is on its way. Tickets for the Desert Hot Springs music and wellness festival will go on sale August 1 according to a report published by a local internet website. The event will take place on October 9 & 10.
Anticipation of ticket sales increased dramatically after the announcement of Ziggy Marley as the headliner. Breaking the news was Friends Of Desert Hot Springs who received a call from concert promoter Tony Clark CEO of Tresed Ventures in LA to announce the date of ticket sales. Tickets will range from $50-80 for the massive two day event known as the Wellness and World Music Festival.
“This is the greatest thing to ever hit the desert,” said Clark’s close friend and confidant Bruce Barrett who is the desert’s top wine sommelier, pouring at La Vallauris restaurant in Palm Springs and a former music promter himself. A press conference at Hotel Zoso in Palm Springs kicked off the event for the world class signature event in the city across the freeway.
“This is bigger than The Coachella,” Barrett said, “Ziggy is enough for two days. We really don’t need anybody else.” Five-time Grammy winner and reggae icon Ziggy Marley is the festival headliner.
“We’ve got more bands to announce,” Barrett said. “We’re holding back to keep the excitement up. We’re talking with some local bands in the hi-desert now. There’s a lot of great music up there.”
Yoga trainers and wellness authors Rodney Yee, Colleen Saidman Yee and Dr. Steven Gundry are expected to attract huge crowds said Barrett.
“We’ve seen tons of action from Europe and Asia on our web site,” Barrett said, “Calls have been coming in from Canada and all over.”
“If we announced this morning that Ziggy Marley was playing at K Mart we would have 10,000 people that afternoon. He’s that big,” said Rick Daniels, City Manager. “We’re planning on 10,000 people and 5,000 cars.” The vast open expanse of the Mission Springs Soccer Fields at the entrance to the city is the concert location.
The desert will be treated to two back to back world music festivals. The 5th Annual Roots Music Festival in Joshua Tree is also showcasing world music and scheduled the weekend following the Desert Hot Springs event. Music for the Roots event has not been announced for the sister festival of the Joshua Tree Music Festival that achieved top attendance of less than 5,000 after 9 years in the remote location.
Desert Hot Springs city leaders expect to recoup the $250,000 expense from tax revenues and gate attendance profits. A portion of the Festival’s proceeds will go to the Desert Hot Springs’ Boys & Girls Club.
“The city has already got $1.5 million worth of positive publicity because of our PR,” Barrett said. Festival producers have been involved in numerous major events, including the The Hollywood Bowl, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Olympics and World Cup ceremonies, the Eiffel Tower centennial, and Super Bowl shows.
“I love Desert Hot Springs,” Barrett said. “This is going to go over great. I’ve been approached by some other cities who want us to move the festival next year but I’ve decided to keep it in this city.”
Desert Hot Springs is home to internationally award winning drinking water, rejuvenating natural hot mineral springs, award winning spas and the Earth Energy Vortex – one of the few in the world.
Two local companies are also involved. Kiner Communications of Palm Desert created the Wellness and World Music Festival website said company president Chris Hunter and Total Marketing Partners of Palm Springs has been retained to provide introductions according to David Peet.
