On Saturday, July 3, 2010 at approximately 5:42 p.m., Deputies from the Colorado River Sheriff’s Department/Marine Enforcement Unit responded to the California Shoreline in the area of the Havasu Landing Casino regarding a boating accident.

Upon arrival, deputies were advised by witnesses that the victim, Eric James Lynn Norris, a 30 year old resident of Westminster, was being pulled on a tube on Lake Havasu. When the victim fell off the inner tube and was in the water waiting for the tow vehicle to turn around and pick him up, he was struck by another vessel. The suspect vessel is described as primarily red with white striping, 25-30 foot V-hull boat. Witnesses estimated the boat travelling at approximately 30-40 mph. The suspect then fled South bound on Lake Havasu.

Deputies were on scene within minutes of receiving the call. A search of the area was conducted with the assistance of Lake Havasu Police Department, Mohave County Sheriff’s Department, and San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Aviation Division however, they were unable to locate the suspect vessel.

The victim was taken to Havasu Landing Marina for medical treatment however, the victim was pronounced deceased.

The Sheriff’s Department is asking anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed the incident or who may have information regarding the suspect vessel, the identity of the suspect driving the vessel or the female passenger to please contact Sergeant Clayton Bailey, Sgt Tim Smith or Detective Jimmy Trahin of the Colorado River Sheriff’s Department (760) 326-9200.
