Its the season….. Council Races about to begin

good news bad news msps Its the season….. Council Races about to beginWell we got some Good News and we got some Bad News.

Good News

Rumor has it, that the field for filling three seats on the 29 Palms City Council is starting to form up to becoming a pretty interesting group of people.

Presently there are five fellows looking to fill those seats. Well four fellows and and huge asshole that was kicked to the curb by the city and now wants to run the joint.

Jim Harris has publicly announced that he intends to run for reelection.

The jungle drums tell me Danny Mintz plans to throw his hat in the ring.

Cactus Thorns contributor Cary Alderson has said several times here online he is in this race to win.

Steve Whitten, a community development planner on Base, has put feelers out that he is interested in running.

All of the above guys have a substantial  fan following but will have to flesh how they would make the town a better place if elected. An actual Platform would be novel.

We’ve yet to here from some of the perennial favorites that always put their name in the hat. Steve Spear has publicly stated that he does not intend to run for a third term.

We’ve yet to hear if Katrina Nguyen plans to run, I personally think we need to have a couple of women in the field to balance out the council. The beginning of the filing period starts July 12th.

The above folks whether any of them and I are going to be doing the slow dance together, is immaterial, they all have a record of wanting what is best for Twentynine Palms.

And then we have the Bad News…..

Worst Case Scenario

The most frightening aspect of this election is the possibility of  people actually voting for what might be the most evil man to ever live in the Morongo Basin, Jerry “Jay” Corbin.

Forced out of positions in both Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms, Corbin has made it his career to be a sycophant at every public hearing in the Basin.

Corbin and his old partying buddy Gary Daigneault will be pulling out all the stops and abusing every FCC rule to make sure Corbin gets the best Radio spots and at the most attractive price.

Daigneault will be attacking every other candidate and searching the court records for any small infraction that might be used to expose competing candidates to public ridicule, while Corbin will be spending lavish amounts of some say as much as 6 figures in cash that he collected from the City as a parting gift from the Council as a way to keep his mouth shut on a plan to plain and simply buying a seat on the Council.

Alternative Media Choices

Cactus Thorns will always be a open venue to candidates that want to get past the Local Lame Stream Media log jam. Along with Cactus Thorns, there is the American Home Journal, The Sun Runner, Underground 29, KDHI, and several other blogs that I can’t think of right now. The thought that you have to spend your money with Daigneault or Melander, or you are not going to get your message out is pure Malarkey.

This web site alone has more viewers a day than Z107.7 has listeners. No kidding folks, more of you read our stories everyday than listen to Gary’s radio station combined.

The last two elections proved to me that the Internet gets the message across as well as anything traditional media. Both our candidates that we help promote won in two consecutive Council elections. Obama as much as I can’t stand the guy, won because of a well oiled  Internet machine.

Consistently in this town the candidate most promoted by the Main Stream Media is the one that consistently looses.  If you don’t believe me check the record. I’m not trying to blow smoke up your ass.

It would be better to participate in the local Internet Blogs, Facebook, Twitter and Weekly and Monthly Periodicals than wasting your money and time on the local fish wrapper or that Squawk Box we call Z107.7.

So I’m opening up my website  to the candidates for both the 29 and Yucca Valley Council seats. I’m going to let you post your platforms and thoughts and let the public have direct access to you by comment and email.

This should be fun.
