The Darkside of Councilmember Jim Harris

TWENTYNINE PALMS – Jim Harris should immediate resign.

He is harassing a private citizen under color of law.

The  councilman is trying to get a citizen fired from his employment; is trying to silence a citizen’s protected free speech; is taking egregious overt action to interfered with the contractual relations between a private citizen and his employer; is defiling the First Amendment; and maybe HARRIS took overt action to violated the civil and constitutional rights of local resident Steve Spear.

I am shocked and offended over the tacky behavior and despicable acts of Council Member JIM HARRIS. He is unfit to hold public office. This public official has brought discredit to the public office he holds.

HARRIS’ perceived contempt for the Constitution of the Unites States of America is unacceptable.

Demonstrably, Council Member JIM HARRIS can’t stand the heat in the kitchen just because a private person exercising purely protected free speech

HARRIS’ behavior is akin to that of disgraced Senator Joseph McCarthy who ruined the careers of so many decent Americans. Seems HARRIS is followed in the seedy footsteps of McCarthyism. I watch that part of dark history on TV when I was a child.

Now it rears its ugly head again right here in the Morongo Basin in term of an elected public official trying to destroy the career of a decent private individual — an individual who served his country with distinction.

HARRIS recently contacted the employer of 29 Palms resident STEVE SPEAR in a pathetic attempt to silence MR. SPEAR, and butchers his right to redress his local government in a public forum.

Mr. SPEAR made a harmless comment to HARRIS in Cactus Thorns: He cussed-out HARRIS.

Mr. Spear disclosed that “Harris and his associates” contact Mr. SPEAR’S employer via a formal letter to complain about a harmless comment MR. SPEAR’S made in a blog. My understanding is that the matter is currently under investigation by Mr. SPEAR. And he is seeking copies of such written complaint from his employer in order to explore his options.

Hence, this matter may not be over. Seems that HARRIS interfered with the contractual relations of MR. SPEAR. And Harris is retaliating by using his public office to HARASS a public person. That is not right.

I have inkling that this will follow HARRIS in his November 2014 bid for another four years on the city council. It is offensive that HARRIS (HDWD Director Sarann Graham as well) is using his status as a public official to attempt to prevent a private citizen from making a living.

It’s an irrefutable fact that MR. SPEAR did not libel HARRIS in any way, shape or form. HARRIS, as an elected council member, does not has the right or privilege under color of law to attempt to violate the civil and constitutional rights of another individual.

I submit that JIM HARRIS is out of control. He has defiled AMERICAN VALUES. That is unacceptable and offensive. It is trouble that I spent four years of the best years of my life in the USMC upholding these values we so cherish, then someone like HARRIS comes along to violate those American principles.

HARRIS and his associates” attempted to destroy the career of Mr. SPEAR in a rage of vengeance.

No private citizen should ever have to fear the wrath of a petty public official like HARRIS.

The good news is that apparently MR. SPEAR’S employer feels that their employees’ private affair are their own business when exercising their First Amendment rights.

In this instant matter, the ethics of Jim Harris are called into question.

While I have no clue as to the comments attributed to Mr Harris against a private citizen, Mr Spear. My comment is this: While I sense outrage in the article about the purported comments, I have seen absolutely ZERO outrage about similar action taken by the current administration against those that have a different view, or about the Senate’s attempt to do away with the First Amendment to the Constitution.

You can’t have it both ways.

  2. […] I was asked to post this story.  It is also about one of your own who used to take me to task.  Since it is already posted over at Cactus Thorns, I will just post the link. […]

  3. Harris has the opportunity to respond to Steve in CT. However he malevolently runs to Steve’s employer to cause problems. Is this not the cowardly way out?
