Twentynine Palms, Ca.,- The search is over to locate an interim City Manager. The Twentynine Palms City council emerged from their closed session at 10:05 pm to announce their selection among several candidates vying for this position.

Andy Takata, the past Town Manager of Yucca Valley and recently released by the City of Banning, has been selected to start out at 20 hours per week at a rate of $100 per hour and possibly easing into 40 hours a week.

If Takata agrees to accept their offer, he will begin in two weeks and live in his house in Yucca Valley. Looks like the stars are in alignment for Takata as his tenants have recently vacated those premises.

The consensus of the Twentynine Palms City Council was to wait until after the November elections to select a permanent manager.

More details to follow when they become available…stay tuned.

the council deserves to be commended for their decision to wait until after the election. good job

    • Mark, the council also deserves to be commended for their decision to have a 20-hour a week interim manager. My guess is that Jay Corbin tapped into his local government experience and was the mover behind the decision.

  2. Steve Whitten Steve Whitten says:

Here’s a thought. If Jay Corbin isn’t running for re-election, is it possible he is setting himself up for the City Manager position?

    • Hi Steve W…we are on the same wave length about Corbin. I wondered how the gap would be filled to the end of his term or if he would have stepped down to seek the manager position. Seems he might be the Master Chessman if this was set up towards the end goal.

As a back-up Corbin might return to his consulting position to manage the new “Marketing” funds put aside in the budget in “partnership” with the hotels. Either way, he will earn more money than he is getting paid as a Councilman with less headaches. Adding elected councilman/Mayor pro tem to his resume will look pretty good if he seeks a city manager position elsewhere in anticipation of future shortage of managers. Thank you for your contributions at the YVPC meeting last evening. Your knowledge, wisdom and experience is much needed on the dais.

I only wished you would have seen the PC in action when Councilman George Huntington was the Chairman. Everyone seated on the dais were prepared, knowledgeable and walked the proposed property, if necessary. The Yucca Valley Planning Commissioners were courteous gentlemen and conducted themselves in a professional way, both on and off the dais, not like today with the antics of Humphreville reflecting poorly on this Planning Commission.

  3. Dan OBrien Dan OBrien says:

$100 bucks an hour? I hope he swallows for that.

  4. Andy Takata: Ummm… That’s $8,000 a month for a 20 hour week job. Maybe the city should invest in a gold and crystal throng for these kings, along with a manicurist and pedicurist. Throw in a beautiful prostitute.

Jay Corbin: Well… there may be something to that Steve. Jay is firmly behind the “new direction”. Only the cronies, insiders and the council know what the hell that means. I smell “serial meetings”given the firing of Joe G. , the interim manager decision, holding off the decision to hire a full time manager and the totality of all the circumstances.

If so a such collusion were to be the case, business as usual behind the OZ curtain of secrecy.

  5. Up Close show revealed Takata & Mayor Mintz schmoozing TWO weeks ago at 29 Palms social gathering.

Per talk show host, Gary Daigneault called out to both of them and said…Meet your new city manager!

    Good hunch Gary!

  6. Isn’t it reasonable to believe that the unexpected sacking of Joe Guzzetta absent good cause was contemplated and discussed beforehand. And that the council understood they had the votes in the bag before hand and before it reached the closed session.

Was the city’s putative Machine Boss, bond council Patrick Munoz Esq. behind this in one way or another?

Serial meetings pursuant to the Brown Act are not complicated. For example, if council members are polled separately in any fashion outside of council meetings, therein is a violation.

Councilman Mintz is out of control. I came to that realization while I was a volunteer 29 Palms C.E.R.T. member. He massages the system behind the OZ curtain of secrecy. I promise.

  7. Ed Montgomery Ed Montgomery says:

I strongly feel the city Council of 29 Palms will regret their decision to hire Andy Takata and so will the people of 29 Palms regret this decision.
