Get off that Cell Phone or I’ll Shoot!

Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Bruce Monroe Ward, 49, of Mohave Valley, early Friday (6/6)morning for disorderly conduct with a weapon and possession of weapon by prohibited person, felonies. Wednesday (6/4) evening, at about 10:45 p.m., deputies responded to a shot fired in the 3000 block of Cheyenne Drive.
Dispatch advised a disturbance between two male subjects and one of them fired a gun. Upon arrival, deputies learned no one was injured and both male subjects walked away from the scene. Deputies contacted the girlfriend of the victim. The victim’s girlfriend said that her boyfriend stepped outside for better reception while he was talking on a phone. The victim’s girlfriend further said that Ward, a neighbor, came over and began yelling at her boyfriend for talking to loudly and causing his dogs to bark. The victim’s girlfriend advised that they started arguing and Ward pointed a gun at the ground toward her boyfriend’s feet and fired a single shot into the ground. Deputies contacted the reporting party.
The reporting party said she heard the neighbors arguing and heard a shot fired. Deputies attempted to located Ward and the victim without success. Early Friday (6/6) morning, at approximately 1:20 a.m., deputies contacted Ward at a residence in the 3000 block of Cheyenne Drive. Ward advised that he went outside when he heard his dogs barking and he observed a male subject talking loudly on a phone. Ward further advised that he grabbed a gun and walked over to confront the male subject. Ward said that they started arguing and he fired a shot into the ground with the intent to calm the situation in which they both parted ways. Ward was taken into custody without incident. A history check revealed Ward had a previous felony conviction. He was transported and booked into the Mohave County Jail.
The weapon was taken and placed in evidence pending the County Attorney’s Review.
