Twentynine Palms, Ca.- The Twentynine Palms City Council met yesterday at 5PM to reconvene their meeting of last Tuesday, where they fired City Manager Joe Guzzetta. Their orchestrated action came down without any previous criticism of his performance or placing of any probation status on his employment. There were no charges of impropriety or illegal conduct brought against Guzzetta during their closed session to evaluate his performance according to parties close to the situation who asked to remain anonymous.

Before going into a closed session the five Council members heard from citizens during Public Comment…and they heard an earful.

Several citizens, including the elder statesman, Owen Gillick, blasted the Council for their callous handling of City Manager Guzzetta’s sudden and abrupt termination. Speaking on behalf of many residents unable to attend this early Monday meeting, Gillick spoke favorably of Guzzetta’s participation in the community and performance as manager over the past year.

One speaker asked the Council to reveal their “New Direction” to the public which had never been discussed in previous meetings before citing this reason for firing the manager. Another offered suggestions of the qualifications they should seek in their next appointment of any manager for the future of Twentynine Palms.

After Public Comments and before going into another Closed Session on the appointment of a City Manager, Mayor Danny Mintz responded it was a “personnel manner” that could not be discussed citing privacy and Brown Act concerns.

Reporter Rebecca Unger and a few residents remained to hear the Council report out of the closed session….

To be continued…

  1. Vote out incumbents Harris and Mintz.

Just exactly is their “new direction”? Setting up more slush funds for their own use? Initiating a *final solution* for transparency? Continuing to neglect basic infrastructure and public safety? Driving the city into more debt?

It went from going in a new direction, to a personnel manner (matter)? what are they doing, well I think they didn’t know what to say to the public and had to wait until the puppet master city attorney told them what to say. I just looked and it is 1:26pm and there are 29 users signed on right now, but we get the same few to comment. Nothing, and I mean nothing is going to change in the City until people stand up for themselves and demand answers. As long as the same few people get up and speak and everyone sits and watches from the sidelines, it will remain as is.
I also realize that some of the users signed in are councilmen/woman or city staff getting a chuckle at our comments

You are 100 percent right Michaelv.

Nothing will change until there are people that as you say demand answers but they are not around.

However, and you can take this to the bank, the councilmembers hate CT and read it all the time as does city staff.

They know that the reads on the stories are incredible.

  3. “…according to parties close to the situation who asked to remain anonymous.”

As a point of clarity, I should have started out by placing the above statement in the beginning of my post, rather than inserting in the body of the story to emphasize that I did NOT attend this meeting.

This story was complied after several interviews with parties (plural), by phone and interviewing several persons (at another yet meeting) on Monday evening before posting.

As a rule, I am in attendance or have reviewed the DVD of meetings I report on. Please know there are attendees that call, email or text me during various meetings that I am not able to attend.

Thank you my friend for your suggestion about this situation and I do agree with you…”otherwise it’s misleading to journalistic integrity.”
