Town of Yucca Valley Releases Proposed Two Year Budget for FY 2014-16 Reflecting a Balanced Budget and modest surplus with a balanced focus on Public Safety and Quality of Life;

The second Workshop is scheduled Tuesday May 20 at 5 PM

         

Following the Town’s Council’s budget priorities and guidance, the Town has released the proposed two year budget covering fiscal years 2014-15 and 2015-16.  The proposed budget projects a stable funding structure for the next two years that focuses on maintaining public safety as a top priority while providing the quality of life programs for which the community has advocated. Included in the proposed two-year budget is full funding for current public safety levels, programs such as the Town’s Summer Concert Series and Aquatics classes, Hi Desert Nature Museum programming, and partnership contributions that assist non-profit organizations providing needed support to Town residents. 

The proposed budget also recognizes the efforts of Town staff with a proposed 1% cost of living adjustment. Finally, upon final review, it is anticipated that the Town Council will allocate any surplus funds to Town Infrastructure needs in line with the long-standing goal of allocating up to 10% of General Fund resources to meet the significant infrastructure maintenance deficit facing the Town.

A repeat workshop will be provided on May 20th at 5:00 p.m. prior to the Town Council’s regularly scheduled meeting.  The public is encouraged to attend one or both meetings and to provide input through their written questions.
At the Q & A session, the public will have the opportunity to interact with the Town Council and Town staff regarding any individual questions on the Town’s proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal years. Questions can be technical, detailed, or general in nature. The public is encouraged to submit their questions ahead of time and send via email to finance@yucca-valley.org. Written questions may also be dropped off at Town Hall during normal business hours, prior to the workshop. Those attending the budget session may also submit their written questions at that time.  All questions will be recorded and answered and made available to the community on the Town’s website.

 

The Council will be holding a formal public hearing on the proposed budget at 6:00 pm on May 20th, 2014 and will be taking formal action to adopt the budget on June 3, 2014 at 6 p.m.
