On May 1, 2014, at approximately 11:08 a.m., the La Quinta High School Resource Officer was given information that alleged two students inside the school were selling marijuana on the school grounds. La Quinta Police quickly identified a 16-year-old female and an 18-year-old male, both students at the school, in possession of marijuana for sales.

Steven Yslas, an 18-year-old resident of La Quinta, was arrested for possession to sell marijuana and was booked at the Riverside County jail in Indio. The juvenile was taken by La Quinta Police officers to her home on the 53500 block of Eisenhower Drive in La Quinta. Officers met with the juvenile’s mother, identified as 48-year-old La Quinta resident Monica Lopez, and discovered her in possession of marijuana and methamphetamine. Monica Lopez was arrested and booked at the Riverside County jail in Indio for possession of drugs.
The juvenile was taken into protective custody by Child Protective Services.
