HDWD_20140512-12pm079Yucca Valley, Ca.,- The Hi-Desert Water District finally launched their outreach campaign to educate the residents in the Phase One sewer project after being delayed 3 months due to the General Manager’s attempt to bring the sewer project in-house.

A team of HDWD meter readers placed 700 door hangers on the Old Town area announcing the meetings for Monday December 12th at 12:30 and 5:00 PM. The HDWD did not have any information on their website nor were the meetings announced in a Press Release.

When questioned about this “outreach strategy,” Staff said “They didn’t want too many attendees to show up at once.” Yep! That’s what they said! Not wanting hundreds of attendees to show up, the room at the Yucca Valley Community Center was reserved for the entire day with 140 chairs.

There were only 10 attendees at the first meeting and only 3 persons showed up for the 5 PM meeting. Two HDWD Directors were present at each meeting along with Gm Ed Muzik and 4 Staff members.

What a waste of time and resources!

Here are a couple of photos of the 5 PM session:

The next scheduled meeting concerning the “Old Town Area” is May 15 at the Yucca Valley Community Center Senior Center from 2:30-4:30PM and 5:00-7:00PM

  2. Thank you Larry for the emails on future meetings! I will post that information asap!

Glad to see the HDWD is changing their strategy to get the word out to everyone. The town of Yucca Valley has forwarded the information out in an email blast.

  3. Larry Briggs Larry Briggs says:

For those interested in the sewer project’s impact on the “High School/Boys and Girls Club” area there will be meeting at the Yucca Valley Community Center Yucca Room on Friday May 16 at 12:30 – 2:30 PM and again from 5:00 – 7:00PM.

  4. The HDWD is a complete embarrassment. Does this meeting conform to the Brown Act, given the fact that it it was neither published nor announced on their homepage.
