Yucca Valley, Ca.,- The campaign signs have popped up around town like wild flowers along the highway and one sign caught my eye…of course, the horrific winds have completely shredded that poor sign placed next to Copper Hills Homes Development at the corner of Joshua Lane and Onaga. This campaign sign was for Cliff Harris for Sheriff.

Cliff Harris announced his candidacy back on October 13, 2013. Here is the story as reported by the San Bernardino Sun:
A retired sheriff’s deputy plans to challenge Sheriff John McMahon for San Bernardino County’s top cop job.
Clifton L. Harris of San Bernardino, who last worked for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, said that even though it’s a big challenge, he’s ready and raring to fight for equality and safety for all citizens of the county.
From 1976 to 1990, Harris, 63, worked his way up from jailer to investigator in the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department before moving to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department for another eight years.
“After I retired, I continued to be involved in law enforcement one way or another,” Harris said in a phone interview. “I think by getting away from it you have the opportunities to see where the holes are and how to better the community.”
When Harris retired in 1998, he worked to get teaching credentials and has taught criminal justice over the years.
Harris earned a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of La Verne. That, coupled with his law enforcement background, teaching and business experience and community relationships with all ethnic groups, makes him believe he’s qualified to be sheriff.
Harris publishes a weekly newspaper — The San Bernardino American News — and is a private investigator.
He said he recently read the vision/value statement of the Sheriff’s Department and thought “something very important is missing.”
“There is no mention of the Constitution and the protections guaranteed to all citizens,” he said.
Harris said that time and time again the position of sheriff is handed down when the job becomes vacant. He wants to change that.
