On April 28, 2014, deputies assigned to the Palm Desert Burglary Suppression Unit conducted a lengthy investigation related to a series of burglaries that occurred in the cities of Palm Desert and Rancho Mirage, between April 24, 2014 and April 27, 2014. The Burglary Suppression Unit deputies identified a suspect in connection with these burglaries who resided in the city of Cathedral City.
On April 28, 2014, deputies observed the suspect with a female passenger driving in the area of Dinah Shore and Date Palm, in Cathedral City. The deputies attempted to effect a vehicle stop on the vehicle however the suspect failed to stop. While the vehicle was in motion the suspect fled on foot from the deputies in the area of Dinah Shore and Market Place. The female passenger remained inside the vehicle and surrendered to deputies. The Burglary Suppression Unit deputies chased the suspect who ran across Date Palm behind several local businesses. After a short foot chase, the deputies located the suspect who resisted arrest and a struggle ensued, resulting in the suspect receiving moderate injuries.
Inside the suspects’ vehicle, deputies located several items of stolen property to include: IPads, notebooks, expensive electronics, and other items of property stolen from the cities of Yucaipa, Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, and other surrounding cities. Both suspects were also found to be in possession of a large amount of suspected methamphetamine and a large amount of U.S. Currency.

- 41 year old, Cathedral City resident Arthur Byrd, was arrested for two outstanding felony burglary warrants, possession of stolen property, possession of methamphetamine for sales, and resisting arrest.
- 21 year old, Desert Hot Springs resident Kaylah Long, was arrested for possession of stolen property.
Long was booked into the Riverside County jail, located in the city of Indio and Byrd was booked into the Riverside County Regional Medical Center, Detention Care Unit for injuries he sustained during the arrest.
During the course of this investigation a search warrant was authored and served at a storage facility at the 72-000 block of Varner Road, in the community of Thousand Palms. The search warrant resulted in the confiscation of additional stolen property related to additional burglaries in the cities of Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, Redlands, and other surrounding cities.
