Yucca Valley, Ca.- Another resident has tossed his hat into the ring announcing his run for a seat on the Yucca Valley Town Council for the November election. Charles McHenry was a member of the Yucca Valley Traffic Commission and a member of the GPAC, General Plan Advisory Committee. He currently is employed at the Marine Base in Twentynine Palms. I asked Charlie to send me his bio for this post. He writes:
Born and raised in the Sacramento area. Joined the Navy in January 1976 where I worked as an Electronic Technician on radio equipment. Was honorably discharged on December 7, 1981.
Went to work as a civilian for the Air Force in November of 1982 at McClellan AFB working on Ground Control Radar systems until April of 1999. In May of 1999 transferred to Hill AFB in Utah where I worked first on flight control instruments and later worked on launch control systems for missiles. In April of 2002 transferred to 29 Palms and began working for Exercise Support Division where I am currently employed. My wife Nancy and I have been happily married since February 1991 and are looking forward to many more years together. I have been involved in the community in several ways since moving here. I served on the Traffic Commission for almost three years prior to its disbanding. I recently served on the General Plan Advisory Committee.
I was on the Board of Directors for the Yucca Mesa Improvement Association for 18 months serving as President for one year. I have been on the board of the Joshua Tree National Park Association for the last four years and am currently the Vice-President of the Association.
I am also currently serving as the Treasurer for the Friends of The Yucca Valley Library until my term expires in June. I am a Life Member of VFW Post 7264 in Joshua Tree where I help to cook breakfast one Sunday a month.
