This Robert Mitchum was arrested

On Wednesday, April 9th, 2014, members from Colorado River Sheriff’s Station and California Department of Corrections Adult Parole conducted compliance checks on registered sex offenders within the unincorporated community areas of Blythe, Mesa Verde, Ripley, and North River.

  • 14 compliance checks were completed
  • 3 parole searches were completed
  • 2 probation searches were completed
  • 5 residence searches
  • Robert Joseph Mitchum (sorry not Robert Mitchum, the long departed and beloved actor), 60, from the unincorporated area north of Blythe, a registered sex offender, was arrested and booked into the Blythe Jail for violation of parole.

The primary objective of this operation was to verify the accuracy of the residence address information provided by each registered sex offender and to ensure those persons on parole and probation were in full compliance as stated by law.  This operation was also intended to impress upon the registrants the necessity of keeping their registration records current and to reinforce that law enforcement officials are actively monitoring their compliance.

It is the mission of Colorado River Sheriff’s Station to keep citizens safe through education to the public, the registrant and strict compliance enforcement.  Deputies will continue to conduct random registered sex offender sweeps throughout the year to ensure they are abiding the agreed terms of their sex registration.

California has required sex offenders to register with their local law enforcement agencies since 1947.  California’s Megan’s Law provides the public with certain information on the whereabouts of sex offenders so that members of our local communities may protect themselves and their children. Megan’s Law is named after seven-year-old Megan Kanka, a New Jersey girl who was raped and killed by a known registered sex offender who had moved across the street from the family without their knowledge. In the wake of the tragedy, the Kankas sought to have local communities warned about sex offenders in the area. All states now have a form of Megan’s Law.  Citizens are urged to visit the State of California Department of Justice Megan’s Law homepage at www.meganslaw.ca.gov/.
