What was supposed to be a sure thing didn’t happen on Thursday night.

San Bernardino County District Attorney Michael A. Ramos was unexpectedly denied the endorsement of the County Republican Central Committee.

The honor was instead handed to Deputy District Attorney Grover Merritt, who is Ramos’ subordinate and challenger.

The party’s endorsement committee recommended Ramos, but the full committee rejected that idea outright.

What’s more interesting is that many of the “ex-officio” committee members, those representing state and federal elected officials, voted for Merritt.

  1. FWIW:

“I couldn’t help but enjoy the fact that five members of the Ramos (James) family each contributed $4,100 to Ramos (Mike). I don’t care for any other reason than it makes certain people’s blood boil. Earl Carter also donated $4,100. That is the frosting on the cake.”
