Merritt Challenges Ramos To Three Public Debates
Rancho Cucamonga—Veteran Criminal Prosecutor and District Attorney Candidate Grover Merritt today challenged incumbent Mike Ramos to a series of three candidate debates to be sponsored by each of San Bernardino County’s three major Bar Associations.
“I challenge Mr. Ramos to a series of three debates to be held under the auspices of the three major local Bar Associations (the San Bernardino County Bar Association, the High Desert Bar Association and the Western County Bar Association) in conjunction with our major county newspapers,” declared Merritt.
“The citizens of San Bernardino County deserve a District Attorney who is open, accessible and engaged. We are not getting that from Mr. Ramos,” continued Merritt. “These debates will give Ramos an opportunity to stop hiding behind his Orange County Political Consultant and starting answering questions about his record in an open public forum.”
“As we have seen in the recent wave of shootings in San Bernardino, crime is spiraling out of control throughout our County. At the same time, office morale in the DA’s office has plummeted and plea bargaining has become epidemic, while Mr. Ramos’ political cronies in Sacramento continue to release tens of thousands of hardened criminals under a misguided prison ‘realignment’ scheme,” stated Merritt.
“San Bernardino County now suffers the highest rate of gang violence in the entire state,” said Merritt. “I would hope that Mr. Ramos has the decency to address the public’s concerns about our worsening crime situation,”
“A series of three debates, each in a different geographic area of the County, would enable the media and the public to hear their two District Attorney candidates answer questions in an unfiltered, open forum,” concluded Merritt.
