Mohave County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Units responded Saturday (3/8) afternoon to rescue a male subject who had fallen about 50 feet after his rope snapped. Robert Rodriguez, 21, of Kingman, was hiking with two friends when he was rappelling down to a stream when the accident happened.
At approximately 4:30 p.m., SAR units responded to the area in the Black Mountains known as the Dripping Springs with medics from the Golden Valley Fire Department. Rodriguez was located at the base of the cliff. Rodriguez advised that he was climbing down the cliff when his rope suddenly broke and he fell to the ground.
Rodriguez suffered several compound fractures to his leg and hip.
Arizona Department of Public Safety Flagstaff Ranger responded and airlifted Rodriguez out of the canyon.
