Landers, Cal.,- At Saturday’s meeting of the Landers Association, residents reviewed entries in the slogan contest and voted for their favorites. Some 78 entries were submitted; each was assigned a number so no one knew who the authors were. When the votes were tabulated, Ms. McCall’s combined second and third grade class at Landers Elementary School emerged the winners with their entry, “Beautiful Skies, Miles of Smiles.“

The winning slogan narrowly beat out the entry of “Landers: Weird, but in a good way.”  Now, “Beautiful Skies, Miles of Smiles” will  be added to the Landers sign at the Post Office and at other locations throughout the community. The association also voted to update the population figure painted on the sign. The current and hopeful 10,000 figure will be replaced with the more accurate, census-based figure of 2,667 persons.

Congratulations to the students at Landers Elementary for coming up with such a great slogan that people will use to describe Landers for many years to come.
