“The Desert Rocks! Life on the Faultline” is the theme for the spring Art in Public Places exhibition at the Twentynine Palms Visitor Center and Chamber of Commerce, 73484 29 Palms Hwy., in downtown Twentynine Palms. The group art show will be on display from April 1 to June 27, 2014.

The iconic boulders of Joshua Tree National Park are just one of the ways the desert “rocks.” There are sparkling gemstones, swingin’ music, and—of course—those notorious earthquakes. Life on the faultline inspires creativity in many ways.

Artists are invited to submit one original piece of art that captures the theme for possible inclusion in the group exhibition. Artists are encouraged to consider submitting three-dimensional work such as assemblage, sculpture, ceramics, or fabric art as well as more conventional mediums, including painting, drawing, watercolor, photography, and mixed media.

Artwork submissions will be received at the visitor center on Friday, March 28 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Artists can also pick up any unsold work from the previous show at that time.

There is no charge for submitting art, and the piece must be offered for sale. All work must be ready to hang or mount with professional wire and should be suitable for viewing by the general public. Artists are requested to read the complete Exhibition Guidelines available at the visitor center and on the Art in Public Places page at www.29palms.org.

An opening art reception is being planned for Friday, April 4, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., with music provided by Jamie Hafler.

The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week inside the Visitor Center and Chamber of Commerce, 73484 29 Palms Hwy. at the corner of Desert Queen, downtown Twentynine Palms, (760) 367-6197. Art in Public Places exhibitions are presented by the Public Arts Advisory Committee of the City of Twentynine Palms. For more information, contact Jon Beard at (760) 367-7562 or email publicarts@29palms.org.
