Johnson_Valley_OHV• “Rain likely. High near 60F. Winds S at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 90%. Rainfall near a half an inch.” This is what it predicts for Friday, right now on johnsonvalley.com, and Friday night the percentage is 50%.

Listening to the wind howl in and out this morning, waiting for the rain that is forecast… The percentages have bounced up and down over the last two days, but have been at the levels where we could reasonably expect rainfall. Will it be enough rain to bring out the wildflowers/weeds? Half an inch is a lot out here. Will any of it actually fall on our heads in Johnson Valley, or will we just get to watch it come down on Landers, the OHV Area, the Marine Base, the mountains? And smell it?

Or, will we get a year’s worth in an hour and watch it make gullies in the roads and fill up Lake Larrea on the highway? Any of this could happen, since the forecast is for Zip Code 92285, a huge territory with a lot of different climate zones.

Whatever the forecast, we never know what to expect. Stories of mudslides in the burn areas. Long drive times for the unfortunates who have to be on the road. Road closures in the high desert. Whatever, we do need the rain.
