Alcohol makes people stupid

accidentMohave County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a single vehicle injury accident that occurred in the 3100 block of E  Devlin Avenue Saturday (2/22) evening. Approximately 9:41 p.m. deputies responded and upon arrival, deputies observed an accident scene where  Maroon Ford F350 truck crashed into a residence.

The driver was initially unconscious and the female passenger was alert. The deputy helped the driver (as he came conscious) out of the vehicle and out to the street due to a gas leak. The truck struck a gas meter prior to hitting the residence.

Deputies checked the house and located two uninjured residents. Deputies escorted the residents to the street, out of danger of the gas leak.

Unisource was notified and responded. Medical responded and transported the driver identified as Benjamin Hanson, 23, of Kingman, and the female passenger to Kingman Regional Medical Center. Hanson sustained non-life threating head laceration and the female passenger was transported for observation only.

Hanson was arrested after he was medically released from the hospital. Hanson was charged with two counts of criminal damage, three counts of endangerment, felonies, along with criminal damage, DUI, DUI with a blood alcohol concentration over .08%, extreme DUI with a blood alcohol concentration over .15% and less than 20% and super extreme DUI with a blood alcohol concentration over .20%, misdemeanors.

The accident investigation and witness statements revealed that the truck was traveling eastbound on E Devlin Avenue at a high rate of speed (between 70 and 85 miles per hour). When the truck reached Melody Street it went airborne, and landed,causing the driver to lose control strucking the gas meter at 3145 Devlin Avenue, then took out approximately 60 feet of chain link fence, entered the yard at 3145 Devlin struck their parked car, struck another chain link fence, hit two Mulberry trees, struck a second parked car at 3155 Devlin then ran into the residence at 3155 Devlin.

Speed and alcohol are factors in this investigation.
