On Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at approximately 1:10 P.M., deputies and investigators from the Cabazon Station were dispatched to assist San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department deputies with an assault with a deadly weapon investigation in the 2700 block of Mill Creek Rd., Mentone.
Investigation revealed two victims were on their multi-acre property in the 36000 block of Selrocco Dr., Calimesa, when they observed a green Chevrolet pickup truck driving on their land. The victims’ property had been burglarized the night before and several times within the past month. Believing the subjects in the truck were connected with the recent burglaries, the victims got into their car and followed the truck.
|John Crawford||Luis Teran|
The truck, driven by John Crawford, (46 years old from Yucaipa), with passenger Luis Teran, (25 years old from Yucaipa), began driving erratically through the city of Calimesa in an effort to elude the victims. When the two vehicles approached the intersection of Grant St. and County Line Rd., Calimesa, Crawford aggressively drove his truck into the victim’s vehicle, before again speeding away to the Mentone area with the victims following. Crawford stopped on Mill Creek Rd., near the intersection of Bryant Ave., Mentone and Teran exited the truck carrying a hammer. Teran approached the victim’s vehicle in an aggressive manner. The victim, fearing for his safety, accelerated into Teran, causing him to strike the windshield with his body before falling to the ground. The truck, now occupied only by Crawford sped away from the location, again followed by the victims.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department deputies conducted a traffic stop on Crawford in the 2700 block of Mill Creek Rd., Mentone. The victim was able to identify numerous tools in the bed and cab of Crawford’s vehicle belonging to him. Teran was transported to a local hospital for treatment prior to being arrested.
John Crawford and Luis Teran were arrested for 496(a) PC, Possession of Stolen Property, 245(a)(1) PC, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, 136.1(c)(1) PC, Witness Intimidation, and 182 PC, Conspiracy. Both subjects were booked at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility.
