DonnaMunoz2010 Merl Abel was appointed to the Town Council Wednesday evening. (Courtesy photo)Morongo Unified School District- MUSD Board Trustee, Donna Munoz, has confided to her inner circle she will not be seeking re-election this November.  Munoz, always winning hands down at each election in the past will retire from her position on the school board but don’t look for Donna to slow down! Not only is she a wife, mother, daughter and grandmother, she is the current Field Representative for 3rd District Supervisor, James Ramos.

Many supporters have stated her decision will clear the path for Yucca Valley Councilman/past Mayor/Educator Merl Abel to toss his hat in the ring with a successful run for school board.  Abel, a popular teacher at Yucca Valley High School and past principal at Joshua Springs Christian School, will bring his wealth of first-hand knowledge and experience to the school board facing many tough decisions. Merl has served on the Traffic Commission, Yucca Valley Parks & Recreation Chair, Yucca Valley Planning Commission and was appointed to the Town Council in 2011, serving as Mayor in 2013.

Abel’s first hand knowledge of the Morongo Basin will be a perfect fit for school board, not only as an educator, but a licensed real estate agent who has his “boots on the ground” serving the following areas:

  • 29 Palms, CA
  • Desert Hot Springs, CA
  • Johnson Valley, CA
  • Joshua Tree, CA
  • Landers, CA
  • Morongo Valley, CA
  • Pioneertown, CA
  • Twentynine Palms, CA
  • Twentynine Palms Mcb, CA
  • Yucca Valley, CA

Abel posted this statement:

“I have been involved in real estate since I was 17 years old. I am now working in the beautiful Morongo Basin and have enjoyed every minute. This past year, I completed the GRI certification program held in the Palm Springs Area. My clients get personal, friendly service with no sales pressure. I enjoy educating people and representing them in all areas of real estate. Probate sales, “first time” home buyers, or seasoned investors can benefit from my local knowledge. ” Source>LINK

A current school board member was extremely pleased to hear the name of Merl Abel and pointed out the importance of an early declaration of running for office in order to start raising money.  The candidate statement for the San Bernardino Register of Voter guide is the best investment, besides signs, mailers and robo-calls, at a cost of only 4cents per voter.  However, this cost pencils out to $1,300 but would allow each voter to review Abel’s impressive credentials and educator experience in his candidate statement.

The other seat up for election on the MUSD board is held by Chris Proudfoot, who has not made his intentions known at this time.

If Merl Abel, runs a school district as bad as he has the town Yucca Valley, God help us all and Morongo unified school District. I hope the people are smart enough not to reelect him for anything! He is part of the problem not the solution. Merl Abel and his other three sky harbor buddies have practically destroyed the town Yucca Valley! I
