pds14-0131-ArsenaultDarleneOn January 31, 2014, officers from the Indian Wells Police Department responded to the area of Hwy 111 and Manitou Drive, Indian Wells, in reference to a traffic collision involving three vehicles.  The investigation revealed the driver of a Hyundai Elantra was traveling east on Hwy 111 approaching Miles Ave.  The vehicle entered the left-hand turn lane where two vehicles were stopped for the signaled red light.  The driver admitted to diverting her attention to her cellular phone which caused the vehicle to rear end a Nissan Ultima.  The Nissan Ultima then rear ended a Dodge Charger.

The driver of the Nissan Ultima complained of neck pain and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.  The driver of the Hyundai Elantra was identified as Darlene Arsenault, age 57 of Bermuda Dunes.  It was determined alcohol was a factor in this collision and Arsenault was arrested for driving while being under the influence of alcohol.

The Indian Wells Police Department is committed to the safety of their citizens and will be vigilant in investigating all crimes of this nature. The investigation is ongoing and we’re asking anyone with information about this incident to contact the Indian Wells Traffic Bureau at the Palm Desert Station at 760 836-1600.
