Yucca Valley, Ca.,- How can things get worse on this Senior Housing scheme? At a meeting in January of the Yucca Valley Town Council, the original Sky Harbor members of: George Huntington, Merl Abel and Dawn Rowe voted to allow “advances” to the CORE Senior Housing scheme. Mayor Lombardo was absent and Councilman Bob Leone voted no because it place the Town with an IOU position with no one knowing when the town would be repaid.
Leone also voice his opinion this is not a good location for this project as did previous Council members Luckino and Hagerman. There were several letters to the Editor from the Town’s elder statesmen including Bob Thatcher against this location right on the highway.
The changed elevation by the developer CORE Renaissance removed the terracing from the main highway of one story up stepping up to two stories and then the 3rd story set in back. The new building plan removed the V-shaped building with a garden area/spa/community garden area in the center to a big box monstrosity. Yep a 3 story prison looking building right up against the main highway to increase the profit margin for the developer. The fired ex-manager, Mark Nuaimi, brought in this developer with a no-bid agreement to build 74 one bedroom units with only 700 square feet at a cost of $225,000 per unit.
A representative from the San Bernardino County Adult and Aging Services was sitting in the audience and remarked this project does not show up as HUD Housing. This was confirmed by calling the HUD offices and they had no projects in Yucca Valley. When the SB Supervisor called to speak to town officials regarding this project, he was given the run-a-round until he revealed who he was and why he was calling. Still no direct answer on his inquiry. Why all the secrecy? Why was there no ground breaking ceremony?
Talk about a bait n’ switch! A three story block building right on the main highway? Blech!
