Councilman Dawn Rowe will Not Seek Re-election

bio_rowe3Yucca Valley, Ca.,- This evening, there were many agenda items presented to the Town Council and all were treated as action items calling for a Motion, Second and Roll Call Vote including information only or updates to “Receive and File.”  Town Attorney Lona Laymon said there was legislation effective this year and until there was more clarification about this new law, she advised Staff to present each agenda item in this format.

The biggest news item of this evening was Councilman Dawn Rowe’s statement she would not seek re-election.  The low-key announcement came after explaining she was an alternate for LAFCO and the term expired this May if any councilman was interested in applying since she would not seek re-election.  LAFCO is the Local Formation Commission for San Bernardino County. >LINK

Rowe said she really enjoyed representing our town on LAFCO and did not offer any explanation for not seeking re-election.  I had been told that she spoke in private with several individuals of her decision not to run.  I chose not to post the story until I heard it from her.

Besides, isn’t it a woman’s prerogative to change her mind?

Council member Dawn Rowe is one of the smartest women to have served on the dais in regards to reading and understanding the staff reports.  When we both served on the Yucca Valley Planning Commission together, I could call her up, ask her to flip to a certain stamp page explaining a traffic study to confirm the discrepancy I pointed out to her.  Not only did she do a quick analysis on the spot, she pointed out another flaw to me.

I can attest to her time on the Planning Commission, Town Council and the Redevelopment Oversight Commission that Dawn fully read and understood the full agenda packet, as did I.  Rowe and I have butt heads in the past and probably will again in the future but we always winked or nodded, brushed ourselves off and continued forward to serve our community in our own ways.

So why did I always refer to her as Councilman Rowe?  When she was a member of the Sky Harbor Five (Councilmen Hagerman, Huntington, Abel, Lombardo) she was the only one on the dais that had any gonads.

Often speaking out of both sides of her mouth, Rowe appeared to be running out of patience during this last year of her term.  The unpopular ex-Town Manager Mark Nuaimi, led her down his path of arrogance leaving a legacy of debt during her term as Mayor.  I don’t think she would change one moment of her term accepting the good, bad and the ugly in the world of politics.

If in fact she was instrumental in working behind the scenes to kick out Nuaimi and send him packing to Fontana…we can thank her for that.  However, knowing what she knew about the situation(s), it was a bad call on her part to vote for a generous severance package in the amount of $126,666 plus one year health insurance.

Rowe  never did connect with the everyday citizen which kept her isolated and out of touch.  She blindly supported Nuaimi and was oblivious to the damage he was inflicting to the citizens dividing this community. Her “Legacy of Debt” will continue to unfold during the next 2-3 years while the Nuiami mess is unraveled.

Perhaps she will be heading out to Washington, DC with her family in tow to experience the big world with Congressman Paul Cook opening doors for her…we’ll see.

That is very good news at least she’ll be away from us and that’s also good news as well. I heard that Able was not going to run either. That’s also good news. Now we just have to put in responsible Council people and not anybody from the planning commission! So come next November we’ll all work hard to campaign to put in good people on the town Council. I will do my part and hopefully other people will join me to campaign for the right people! We have a lot of housecleaning to do.

We have to stop the bleeding! The overspending, the four day work week. We need to go back to five days a week for all the city workers. Town Hall needs to be kept open from 8 to 5 Monday through Friday. No more seven days off before Christmas after Christmas and New Year’s. It’s time that the town of Yucca Valley start serving the people that they’re supposed to be serving and not themselves. It’s time for the town Yucca Valley to start serving the people like you’re supposed to be and not the other way around, like it has been.

It’s time for the people of Yucca Valley to take back our town! Also, all salaries need to be re-looked, and the overspending of some of these employees.
