I had some information relayed to me about Theater 29. The sources and I stress plural on the sources, told me that Theater 29 had contacted the city in regards to the Theater relocating into the downtown area.
I initially had no problem with that idea. After all I have always been in support of the Theater. Over the last seven years when I was able to be on the Community Development Block Grant task force I without fail supported every attempt to improve the theater building. I even supported the theater when we made the tough decision to cease funding of Knots Sky Park Preschool.
So, as I said, I had no problem with the Theater relocating. But then the other shoe fell. I was told that the City manager had already agreed to find a building in the redevelopment area of the city and to have the city purchase that building for the Theater.
Not believing this to be so I contacted the city manager to find out if even the idea of the Theater moving was in the works, if that proved to be false then the idea of the city buying a building for the theater was absolute malarkey.
Well, what I heard was not pretty.
Turns out that the city manager and according to him, Steve Flock, thought that putting an information item about the theater on the next agenda was in order. The first step I thought to money being spent.
Mike Tree explained that the Theater had acquired $15,000.00 from Brad Mitzelfelt to perform a study in regards to relocating the theater. Mike thought that it was better that the City Council be involved up front in this process rather than later on so as to be informed on the conceptual idea but at no cost.
Like the Lone Ranger I yelled out “WHOA”!
What process are we talking about here? That is unclear, at best, at this point. Does not the Theater occupy a city building in a rent free status? Yes, it sure does. Has the Theater benefited from the city to a great extent already? That would be another “Yes”.
My mind was racing and I swear I had a déjà vu moment – here we go again as we did with the Chamber. Through some convoluted means I saw the taxpayers getting stuck with a large bill to re-locate the theater.
Now, I ‘m still trying to get some more facts together but I see the headline of the report already coming together, “The Tale of Two Cities”.
One city would be made of the information that is being provided to me by very influential people within the city, the School District, as well as the Theater that this idea of the city buying the Theater a new building is, and I quote, “a done deal” just as had happened with the new Chamber building/Visitor Center.
The other city would be that offered to me by Mike Tree in regards to getting the Council involved sooner than later in the conceptual idea but at no cost to the tax payer.
It is early enough for us to decide which city we want to be. However, if we do not take a stance against the city buying a building my hunch will be that just as with the Chamber building your tax dollars will end up buying a building for a Public Non-Profit organization.
And the whole expense will be the idea of a very select few individuals and not the will of the people.

After years of blighting the Commercial Service area of town, we in that commercial service area are eager to see those limp wisted pansies gone and out of our hair. They spent years turning in legitimate businesses to code enforcement in an attempt to drive commercial service business out of the area. They damned near completed their death wish on that end of town. They now turn their eye to the Downtown Section.
I am thrilled with the thought of that little goose-stepping prick gone and somewhere else in town. Like Springtime for Hitler, Theater 29 will march into another innocent area of town and be a brutish neighbor unwilling to let good enough alone. It will be Blitzkrieg for what ever area they next intend to assault.
Please move. We in the Commercial Service District of town welcome the opportunity for the rest of the business community to be subjected to Artistic Fascism.
I have just received additional information about this matter.
Sources that attended a social function this past weekend heard Gary Daigneault stating that the city was to buy the old Jelly Donut building and then demo it to then build a new theater. When questioned about the availability of parking Daigneault was heard to say words to the effect of “Don’t worry the city has plenty of land for parking”.
I have relayed this information to the City Manager and have stated in no uncertain terms that if there are any backroom deals that have taken place that I will raise a real roar. I for one have had it with these organizations plotting to use tax dollars to further their own agendas.
First the Chamber now the Theater. What organization is next and where does it stop now that the precedent has been set in regards to the Chamber?
If the Theater wants the help of the city to do anything in addition to all that the city has already done for them then I suggested that Mr. Daigneault come to a Council meeting and use his three minutes like every other citizen has and he can present his case for more of our tax dollars.
As more information comes my way I will keep everyone informed.
Doughnuts…… Daigneault…. Doughnuts….. Daigneault? hmmm I’ll take doughnuts!!
Why not buy Daigneault out… send him to Chicago where his style of politics can be appreciated and save the town millions in future expenses?
And have him become President of the United States?!? Are you stupid?
it does seem that the problems the city has dealing with lately have one common detractor. And it’s not doughnuts
Wait…I like donuts especially jelly donuts. If that place was a theater people driving threw town would have no reason to stop.
Highway traffic stops for donuts and coffee not a small town theater. A donut shop would also bring in more cops so the area would be safer.
Personally I always get donuts and coffee before riding in the area
I agree. The donut shot is much needed. Who gives a rat’s ass about a town theater ran by the town bully. He can move his theatre in his garage.
Why doesn’t he leave our ONE donut shop alone. If he wants to move Theatre 29 somewhere, he can move it to one of the Tattoo shops and bars…on his dime, of course.
