On December 29, 2013, at about 12:25 PM, Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputies, assigned to the city of Calimesa, were dispatched to a traffic collision that occurred near the intersection of Calimesa Blvd and Singleton Rd.
Upon arrival deputies located a male bicyclist injured and lying on the roadway, on Calimesa Blvd, just north of Singleton Rd. The vehicle involved did not stop and left the scene. According to witnesses, the bicyclist was traveling southbound and the vehicle was traveling northbound, both on Calimesa Blvd. For unknown reasons the vehicle crossed the center divider and drove head on into the bicyclist’s path of travel. The vehicle hit the bicycle with the front left of the vehicle, causing major injuries to the bicyclist. The vehicle was seen with damage to the front headlight and front left side of the vehicle.
According to witnesses the vehicle is only described as a light green or light blue compact four door vehicle that was driven by an elderly White or Hispanic male with white hair.
Calimesa Blvd, between Singleton Rd and Chandler Ave, was closed for about four hours due to the investigation. At the time of this press release the vehicle and/or the driver of the vehicle have not been identified.
assigned to the city of Calimesa, observed a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence in the 1200 block of Cherry Lane, Calimesa. The vehicle, a green 2005 Ford Five Hundred, matched the description of the suspect vehicle and had damage consistent with damage expected from the evidence left at the scene. The vehicle was towed to the Cabazon Station and processed for additional evidence.
The suspect, identified as William Donald Johnson, (42 years old from Calimesa), was contacted at his residence. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that Johnson was involved in the hit and run accident. Johnson was arrested and booked at the Smith Correctional Facility for 20001 CVC, Felony Hit and Run.
The victim remains hospitalized in critical condition, his name will not be released at this time.
