SB County, Ca.,- Examiner.com-Assemblyman Curt Hagman will soon announce that he is in the race for the seat on the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors currently held by Gary Ovitt. Ovitt has been reluctant to vacate the seat even with the scandal surrounding his incumbency.

Ovitt is one of several unindicted co-conspirators in the Colonies scandal involving land rights and flood-control improvements in the city of Upland. His former chief of staff, Mark Kirk, is facing several felony counts resulting from his involvement in obtaining Ovitt’s vote for the $102 million settlement.

Ovitt was instrumental in firing former County Administrative Officer Mark Uffer, then agreeing to a $650,000 wrongful termination settlement with Uffer, and replacing him with Greg Devereaux. Devereaux was city manager of Ontario when Ovitt was on the city council.

Political insiders say the embattled Ovitt is expected to announce today he will be retiring from his seat. Polling results suggest he cannot win re-election against a strong opponent.Hagman currently represents the 55th Assembly District. He is one of few Republican legislators who is effective despite the Democrats controlling both houses. Hagman also serves as chairman of the San Bernardino County Republican Party.
