James Madison saw this one coming

pig-thumb If you haven’t figured this out, I am pissed at the illustrious Blow hard Congressman, Paul Cook.  If you have been following the Johnson Valley OHV  saga you can quickly realize that the die was cast years ago. The Marines had every intention to take all if not most of the Recreation area for their own uses without a single mitigation of the loss to the off road community. They ended up taking 50% outright and with a stroke of a pen will take another 25% the first time a .223 round is not accounted for on the shared range area.

This was the plan before Cook took office, this is the plan promoted for years, and this is the plan passed out of the house July 8th 2013 and sent to the Senate soon after. Paul Cook, blustering about how he saved the day is a complete fabrication. The facts do not back up the bull shit.

Lets get something straight, loosing 70% of what you had and call it a win-win is the purest example of insanity. It is as if you experienced a home invasion robbery and you stoically deny that your wife was raped in the crime, because they entered her from the rear.

A bad deal is a bad deal no matter how much you try to paint the lip stick on the pig. The off road community had the heart and guts ripped out of the Johnson Valley OHV Area and nothing can change that. No amount of Christmas wrappings is going to make it better. No amount of songs of praise to Saint Paul of Yucca Valley will reverse the taking..

What are the effects of this?

As soon as the millions of riders, drivers and recreators, find that they have lost all the spots that they used to take the family out to camp and play, shit will hit the fan. You might as well forget ever getting access to another 162 Square Miles of the Mojave.

James Madison said:

In time of actual war, great discretionary powers are constantly given to the Executive Magistrate. Constant apprehension of War, has the same tendency to render the head too large for the body. A standing military force, with an overgrown Executive will not long be safe companions to liberty. The means of defence against foreign danger, have been always the instruments of tyranny at home. Among the Romans it was a standing maxim to excite a war, whenever a revolt was apprehended. Throughout all Europe, the armies kept up under the pretext of defending, have enslaved the people.

Madison also noted that never-ending war tends to destroy both liberty and prosperity:

Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes; and armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few. In war, too, the discretionary power of the Executive is extended; its influence in dealing out offices, honors, and emoluments is multiplied: and all the means of seducing the minds, are added to those of subduing the force, of the people. The same malignant aspect in republicanism may be traced in the inequality of fortunes, and the opportunities of fraud, growing out of a state of war, and in the degeneracy of manners and of morals, engendered by both. No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.

liberty_fallenPaul Cook is not a friend of Liberty he brags more about his affiliation with the Military-Industrial Complex than he does about his responsibility to represent his district’s citizens as a whole. The proof of the pudding is in this fiasco that he now foists as some sort of victory.

I have been a Republican Party Member all my adult life. I have always believed in the principles of (small r) republicanism and always opposed to mob rule. But lets understand something here,  to be a good Democrat you neither need not agree with or follow down the path this present day maniac in the White House nor for a true Republican to agree with a small town nut ball Militarist posing as a representative of the body politic.

Giving up Public Lands in the name of the Military-Industrial Complex over the strong objects of even the Commandant of that same Military Establishment is, well…. nuts and a stain on the Country and a nail in the coffin of our republic.

Instead of growing the Military-Industrial Complex we should shrink it down to a level that protects our borders and our very limited international interests. We do not need to be the world’s Police. We need to follow our own Constitution for God’s Sake. Nothing wrong with carrying a big stick, but there is something wrong with using that big stick on your own people.

You each have to decide what you want this Union of 50 States to be. Is it a union of 50 sovereign republics with a limited Federal Government with limited powers or are we a single Democracy? The choice is yours. The time of choosing is soon to be at hand.

  1. Moreover, the USMC clan shut down the entire area any time they decide to do so. What is just as alarming is the increase in air space the USMC has just usurped in the Morongo Basin. New air space and military aircraft flying at law levels over peoples' property will decrease property values and the noise pollution is going to be something to deal with.

The military needs to be downsized at all levels. I can't see the victory in the USMC seizing and controlling recreational lands.

Local radio thinks Cook pulled off a miracle and that he saved the Recreational area.

  2. I don't believe the USMC can legally take all the airspace. When the government granted these lands threw land patent it was forever. The land patent owners own the air space above and what's below minus mineral rights. There have been many court cases regarding who owns what's above the land patent. Some people owned land patents that were under water and considered useless until they realized they could build boat docks and other sorts of things that made these properties very valuable. The Government will always try to take unless you tell then NO!
