Morongo Basin Transit Bus and Passenger Vehicle Victim of Hit and Run Collision

On November 29, 2013, at approximately 4:05 PM, Gilda Donche of Joshua Tree was traveling eastbound on SR-62 near Sunburst Avenue (Downtown Joshua Tree), in the right lane.

Syndi Riley was driving a Morongo Basin Transit Bus and was stopped on the shoulder after dropping off passengers.  A dark colored Ford Explorer was traveling in the left lane and made an unsafe lane change forcing Donche’s vehicle off of the road.

Donche’s vehicle struck the rear of the stopped bus.  The driver of the Ford Explorer fled the scene eastbound towards Twentynine Palms.  Witnesses attempted to follow the Explorer, but was unable to keep up with the speeding vehicle.

Donche sustained moderate injuries as a result of this collision and was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center.  None of the passengers on the bus were injured.

Any person with information regarding this collision is requested to contact the California Highway Patrol in Joshua Tree at 760-366-3707.
