The San Bernardino County District Attorney has filed a single count of perjury against a San Bernardino City Councilman this morning.
Chas Kelley, 44, who represents the city’s Fifth Ward, is expected to enter a plea this afternoon in San Bernardino County Superior Court.
A source, close to Kelley, says the charge alleges Kelley failed to properly report payments made to his wife (emphasis added) , who acted as treasurer, from his campaign account.
Kelley hiring and paying his wife, to act as Treasurer, isn’t a crime. The failure to properly report the payments, which in most cases is usually an Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) fineable violation, can be charged as perjury, by an overzealous prosecutor.

So, let me get this straight, we have a DA who failed to document paying his wife $10,000 and all he gets is a fine from the FPPC.
But if someone is charged with the same offense, its criminal time for them!
