On October 15, 2013, at 5:00 PM, officers of the California Highway Patrol responded to the area of State Route 62 near the San Bernardino County/ Riverside County line, Morongo Valley, for the report of a single vehicle motorcycle accident.
Upon arrival they found that Gary Thomas Berlino II, a 30 year old resident of Morongo Valley, the sole helmeted rider of a 2003 Kawasaki motorcycle, had been ejected from the vehicle after veering off the paved road and striking the mountainside.
Berlino suffered upper body trauma and was declared dead on scene by Morongo Valley Fire Department personnel.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.

Solo Motorcycle Collision Leads to Man’s Death
On October 15, 2013 at approximately 5:00 PM, Gary T. Berlino II, 30, of Morongo Valley, CA, was riding a 2003 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle westbound on State Route 62, west of Hess Blvd., at a high rate of speed on the “Morongo Grade”. Berlino lost control of his motorcycle at the San Bernardino/Riverside County Line and became ejected from the motorcycle. During the collision, Berlino’s helmet, which had not been properly fastened, came off and Berlino sustained major head trauma. Berlino’s motorcycle went off the roadway and came to rest in a ravine west of the highway. Berlino was pronounced deceased on-scene by Morongo Valley Fire Department personnel. CHP Officer Jacob Griffith is investigating this collision.
Officer Scott reminds all motorists that safety equipment is only effective when utilized properly- always wear your seatbelt correctly and, if you ride a motorcycle, properly fasten the chin strap on your helmet.
