On Sunday, October 6, 2013, at approximately 9:20 AM, a search warrant was served at a residence in the 10000 block of Nancy Ave., in Cherry Valley. Two subjects, Bruce Borynack and his son, Zachariah Borynack, were both suspected of possessing explosive devices. Prior to serving the search warrant, the two subjects were seen driving away from the residence. A traffic stop was conducted in the area of Oak Valley Parkway and Oak View Drive, in the city of Beaumont. Both subjects were detained and due to the potential of explosives inside the vehicle, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Hazardous Device Team (HDT) responded and secured the vehicle with a robotic device.
After the vehicle was secure, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Special Weapons and Tactics unit (SWAT) served the search warrant at the residence. A brief standoff occurred when a male and female refused to exit the residence. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) made contact with the occupants and convinced them to exit the residence, which they did. They were detained without incident.
During a subsequent search of the property, an underground bunker was located. Inside the bunker investigators located a large amount of explosive munitions. Due to the amount of explosive devices located, the United States Air Force Hazardous Materials experts and agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation were called in to assist with the investigation.
The adult female was later released. Arrested and charged with fourteen counts of 18715(a)(3) PC, Reckless or Malicious Possession of Destructive Device or Explosives were:
|Bruce Borynack||Zachariah Borynack||Zephaniah Borynack|
- Bruce Borynack, 49 years old from Cherry Valley
- Zachariah Borynack, 25 years old from Cherry Valley
- Zephaniah Borynack, 23 years old from Cherry Valley
