Recall targets Councilmen George Huntington and Robert Lombardo, were warned during public comment to refrain from a conflict of interest vote regarding the Yucca Valley Chamber of Commerce….they continue to add several red flags to their list of bad decisions and misdeeds. The worst offense took place on August 20, 2013, where these two voted to give the unpopular ex-town manager/politician a severance package of $126,666 without cause after both praising him four days prior.
At the last Town Council meeting, Huntington and Lombardo voted to give the Yucca Valley Chamber of Commerce $15,000 for “marketing” and an additional $5,000, to sponsor the traditional Grubstakes Parade. The Chamber was trying to walk away from putting on the parade citing financial woes and not mentioning mis-spending $3,000 on a romantic get-a-way trip to Las Vegas. Drifting away from their concerns about business, the Chamber set up a No-Recall website within their own organization’s website and used funds to hold a Meet and Greet on behalf of Huntington and Lombardo which was poorly attended.
It has always been the tradition of the Chamber of Commerce to sponsor Grubstakes Days and of late, they have been trying to shed that tradition.
Why the big change? The Yucca Valley Chamber has entered into local politics under the current board leadership when the unpopular ex-town manager/politician took a past president under his wing (and into his bed) to change the direction of the Chamber to support his devastating General Fund tax, Measure U, which was defeated at the polls by the voters and now becoming involved in the Recall issue. The small businesses have been neglected on the main corridor by the Chamber’s new priority and many have cancelled their membership in disgust.
Adding more reasons to the recall effort, or Recall Redo, Huntington and Lombardo voted to waive the deadbeat tenant’s past due utilities bills at the California Welcome Center in the amount of $18,000 and agreeing to amend the lease agreement to waive any future utility costs. Huntington’s wife was the past board member of that organization, DRTA, Desert Regional Tourism Agency. Story>LINK
The two Councilmen were targeted for recall for their fiscal irresponsibility for giving a raise to the unpopular ex-town manager/politician Mark Nuaimi then slashing community programs, supporting Measure U General Fund tax and going over budget on building projects seem unable or unwilling to change their bad habits.
Ahighly incriminating email dated May 1, 2013, between Nuaimi and Huntington, reveals a favor being asked to determine how much these projects overran the budget and how much was spent on Measure U. Huntington doesn’t even question these expenditures…he only asks how much was overspent. Email evidence >LINK
More evidence is being uncovered by the Public Records Act of past “Gifts of Public Funds,” while the current Recall tally is being reviewed.
Depending on the outcome…many outraged citizens are lining up demanding to add these new charges calling for a “Recall Redo.”
