Accidental Shooting causes seizure of .45 caliber handgun

m1911Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an accidental shooting Sunday (8/18) morning at a swap meet in the 3200 block of N Bacobi Road.

Upon arrival, deputies located the male subject in the main building. Deputies contacted the male subject identified as David Allen Matheson, 52, of Golden Valley. Deputies observed the male subject to be alert and suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper front left leg.

Matheson advised that he purchased new ammunition for his handgun and wanted to make sure it fit. Matheson further advised that he emptied the magazine from the old ammunition and loaded the new ammunition. Matheson said that as he was loading the magazine into his handgun, his finger must have been on the trigger and the gun went off, striking him. Matheson further said that he had forgotten to remove the one round in the chamber.

Deputies seized the .45 caliber handgun.

River medical transported Matheson to Kingman Regional Medical Center where he currently listed in stable condition
